UNIT 1 - Curation and Cohesion
Students look at at all the artworks they have created so far and consider the themes, ideas and formal qualities that link their individual pieces artworks together. They articulate their overall artistic intentions and give each other feedback on which of their works communicate clear thematic or stylistic relationships.
The begin to plan out how they will curate their final exhibition experience for the viewer and consider how the arrangement and placement of their work is going to impact the overall meaning. Together we look at sample student work from the inthinking website and score the work looking at the exhibition criteria to get a strong handle on the requirements of the criteria.
UNIT 2 - Appropriation in Art
Students start of the year creating a collage to inspire their next project. They reflect on the different perspectives on appropriation in art and considered the depth behind the imagery they are using. Students make connections with TOK and consider the ethics of borrowing, repurposing and reusing others ideas and images. What constitutes true originality? authenticity? authorship?
UNIT 3 - Make it personal
Students continue to work with the larger themes, symbols and motifs they have been exploring in their work while making sure to use a personal lens to rethink their ideas. Students consider their place in the larger world and create an artwork based on their personal frame of reference.
UNIT 4 - Quotes and Facts
Students are inspired by quotes and facts related to their chosen themes.
