I chose an artist who is Jenny Holzer. She was born in 1950 in the United States. She shows her artwork through the messages which are a firm sentence is about such as authority, abuse, consume, regulate, killing, and war. She decided “TEXT” as the material of her artworks and used television commercials, beam projectors, dim lights, printouts, outdoor billboards, electronic boards, or parking meters to inform the message of her artworks. The style of her artworks are called “concept art”. Concept art is an art that emerged after minimalism, it is an art that proves the artists’ idea rather than the finished work.
I chose Jenny Holzer’s artwork which is “PROTECT ME FROM WHAT I WANT”. Jenny Holzer displayed this artwork on the New York Times Square electronic display in 1987. This artwork is one of the most typical city light-emitting diode works. this work was repeated more than 50 times every night for two weeks on the advertising screen of the Manhattan Times Square building. She expressed a message that is about a modern society that is infused with desires and extravagance and showed the main streets electronic board can be one part of the art through this artwork.
