Pipilotti Rist

by M5A Clara

"I am a feminist, but personally, I am not. For me, the image of a woman in my art does not stand just for women: she stands for all humans. I hope a young guy can take just as much from my art as any woman."

Pipilotti Rist (born in 1962) is a Swiss contemporary feminist artist best known for her musical and colorful video installations with the female body. Her works are mostly related to gender and the human body considered one of prejudices of modern societies. She bridges the gap between popular culture and art with MTV pop music style and adds her own elements on it.

'Ever is Over All'(1997) is an audio video installation with two different videos with no borders visible on walls. On its right, it focuses on red flowers in a field. On the left shows the woman walks along the street and joyfully smashes the windows of cars with the red flower she carries. The flower the woman carries represents the female. The artist describes the power of feminine by using the flower to smash into the cars.
